Policy background

The EU-Argentina agreement on scientific and technological cooperation is the basis for a wide variety of knowledge-centred cooperation.

Argentina is very active within the regional EU-CELAC (the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Joint Initiative for research and innovation. Argentina co-chairs, together with France, the Working Group on bioeconomy and food security.

The EU's Joint Research Centre (JRC) cooperates with Argentina in nuclear energy, agriculture, water, climate, ICT / future internet. Nuclear energy is the area where cooperation with the JRC is most advanced.

Many EU countries cooperate bilaterally with Argentina in science and technology.

 

Funding opportunities

Horizon Europe is the biggest EU research and innovation programme ever with more than €90 billion of funding available over 7 years (2021 to 2027). It is open to the world, which means that participants from all over the world can participate in most calls.

Examples of international cooperation projects with Argentina

ALCUE NET (2012-2017) 19 partners from 16 countries supporting the EU and Latin American and Caribbean policy dialogue process on science, technology and innovation, while fostering partnership and capacity building to jointly address social challenges.

ABEST III (2012-2015) project to set up a sustainable, knowledge-based, bilateral dialogue platform between key science and technology players as well as stakeholders from EU and associated countries and from Argentina.
