The European Commission launches the second call for EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors aiming to raise awareness about the sustainable circular bioeconomy and engage with youth communities on the opportunities that bioeconomy offers for our society.
Who can become the new EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador?
The future EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors should:
- Be between 18-30 years old.
- Be a resident in one of the 27 countries of the EU.
- Be committed to make positive change and is passionate about bioeconomy.
- Have experience or interest in bioeconomy or bioeconomy-related fields (e.g. biotechnology, food systems, bio-based sectors, forestry, agriculture, fisheries, nature-based solutions, blue bioeconomy, rural development, ecosystem services, climate change, biodiversity …).
- Be a student, entrepreneur, innovator, artist, professional, researcher and academic, policymaker, non-profit leader, journalist, activist, social media influencer.
- Be a team player and good communicator, and willing to use blogs/videos/social media posts/performances and written articles to raise awareness of bioeconomy.
- Be comfortable with public speaking or expressing their views coherently in written or through other form of expression.
- Communicate fluently in English (CEFR-level C1).
- Be committed to devote time to the Ambassador programme.

What is the role of the new cohort of the EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors?
The EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors are individuals eager to reach out to local communities, students, and civil society, and to engage decision-makers. Leading by example, they inform and inspire citizens on sustainable circular bioeconomy. They support the ongoing youth and education processes of the European Union, and they raise awareness through social media about the role of the bioeconomy for and in everyone’s life.
A first group of the EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors was selected in 2022. Since the programme was put in place, the EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors voiced their passion in support of European green transition.
What are the benefits of being the new EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador?
- Possibility to participate in Europe’s sustainability transition.
- Increase of visibility for their bioeconomy action.
- Improved knowledge and skills about the Bioeconomy and the EU.
- Participation in dedicated educational workshops and in a selected number of events organised by the European Commission (travel costs and accommodation usually are covered).
- Communication support (e.g. training, mentoring).
- Peer-support from other EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors and support from European Commission Bioeconomy team.
- Collaboration and exchange with global bioeconomy youth representatives.
What will the EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors do?
During the two-year term, the Ambassadors:
- Will be called to support the European Commission in promoting EU bioeconomy in society, especially amongst youth communities.
- May contribute to the European Commission Youth Check Process, Youth Policy Dialogue and Youth Advisory Board
- Will be encouraged to support the European Commission in contributing to bioeconomy events.
- Will work in a team with other fellow EU Bioeconomy Youth ambassadors.
- Wil engage with fellow EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors in physical summer and winter camps.
