Today, the European Commission has published a new Portfolio Analysis Report identifying over 800 EU-funded projects, from 16 EU funding programmes contributing to the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”.
The analysis has been performed with the assistance of 12 independent experts andthe projects analysed belong to 16 EU funding programmes, most from Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020, but also from Interreg, LIFE2027, EMFAF, Erasmus+2027 and other European programmes.
The Report highlights innovative solutions as well as gaps and synergies that could require further support at the EU level.
Together with the Report, a Dashboard is made available online. The Dashboard allows user to “interact” with data visualisation and filter from general to more detailed information, according to specific interests.
The Dashboard presents the distribution of EU-funded projects according to relevant Green Deal targets, the objectives of the Mission Ocean, the geographical coverage of sea and river basins, the thematic areas of intervention, and more, among other features.
Background
With a 2030 target, the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters" aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters going beyond research and innovation and involving the digital ocean and water knowledge system and broad public mobilisation and engagement. The Mission’s new approach will address the ocean and waters as one, from rivers to the seas and ocean and will protect and restore marine and freshwater biodiversity and ecosystems, eliminate pollution, and make the blue economy carbon-neutral and circular
The Mission supports the “lighthouses” in major sea and river basins: Atlantic-Arctic, Mediterranean Sea, Baltic-North Sea, and Danube-Black Sea. The lighthouses are sites to pilot, demonstrate, develop and deploy the Mission activities across EU seas and river basins.
