Over 15 months the project consulted more than 800 citizens and 260 national experts through a series of workshops in each Member State, with the aim to develop national Roadmaps as well as an EU Roadmap for Climate Transition.
The Roadmaps identify concrete actions to be taken at national and EU level in the short-, medium- and long-term to ensure a fair and green transition and to achieve the objectives of the European Green Deal. It focusses on three areas key to the transition:
- Sustainable food systems
- Smart and sustainable mobility
- Energy-efficient buildings
It provides recommendations to policymakers at all levels and highlights what citizens and stakeholders consider to be priorities in those three areas.
To conclude this project, DG RTD is organising a closing high-level event on 3 May, that will be opened by Vice-President of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations, Maroš Šefčovič, and Marc Lemaître, DG RTD’s Director-General. During the event, the EU Roadmap for Climate Transition will be presented, and citizens, experts and European Commission representatives will have the opportunity to discuss and react to its findings and on what actions are ongoing or will be taken.
Background
The EU Roadmap for Climate Transition was produced under Other Action 09 (OA9) of the EUR 1 billion Horizon 2020 European Green Deal Call and consolidates insights from deliberation with citizens as well as national experts, representing national authorities, research and education communities, and civil society across the 27 Member States.
