The European Commission grants the second batch of EIC COVID-19 Response Seals of Excellence

Last June 8 the second batch of COVID seals was released. These new 57  COVID-19 Response Seals of Excellence award adds to the 82 from the first batch, announced last 8 May. All 139 Covid-19 Response Seals have undergone the same competitive selection as the final selected excellent projects, announced on the same day. Horizon 2020 did not have enough financial resources for all of them, therefore this award will help them find the funding they need from additional sources to ‘make their dreams come true’. The same is valid for the 679 normal non-COVID Seal of Excellence, also awarded for the same call.

In order to facilitate national and regional authorities (including those managing Structural Funds) to prepare possible Seal of Excellence support schemes, the aggregated figures with national/regional breakdown will soon be provided here. The Seal of Excellence Community of practice of funding authorities is informed and assisted with further information on the available current rules applicable when funding Seal of Excellence proposals.

The EIC COVID-19 Response Seal of Excellence is one of the actions outlined in the ERAvsCorona Action Plan. The 10 priority actions contained in the Action Plan help to address the current health crisis by strengthening close coordination, cooperation, data sharing and joint funding efforts between the European Commission and EU Member States.

On 8 May, the European Commission granted the first batch of the EIC COVID-19 Response Seal of Excellence to 82  excellent proposals addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak. The proposals were submitted under European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Pilot March 20 cut-off.
