The Cloud for All event and the next steps for the Cultural Heritage Cloud

The Cultural Heritage Cloud took a significant step forward on 15 March with a successful virtual meeting attended by over 1,000 cultural heritage professionals from across Europe. European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, led the meeting, which aimed to establish a community of practice among cultural heritage professionals.

The meetings success is attributed to the clear message of collaboration and support to cultural heritage professionals across Europe. The key takeaway was that the Cultural Heritage Cloud would bring tangible benefits to the day-to-day work of all cultural heritage professionals and museums, including the smaller, rural, and remote ones.

Looking ahead, the Deputy Director-General of Research and Innovation, Joanna Drake, announced the next steps in building the community of practice and achieving the shared goals of the initiative.

The newly launched Cultural Heritage Cloud website, will be a key element in building a community of practice for the Cloud:  Interested parties can access information about the Cloud, share news about the initiative and stay up to date about upcoming events.

Through this website, cultural heritage professionals and organizations can register for the Cloud Information & Matchmaking event on 28 March, to get information, to network and to form consortia to submit proposals for the Cloud infrastructure and tools to be funded under the “Cloud Call for Proposals 2023”.

In a next step, the Commission plans to issue a newsletter and organize follow-up workshops later in the year. Additionally, the Commission will foster synergies with other digital initiatives in the field and mobilize additional funds for infrastructure, equipment, and training.

The meeting demonstrated a clear commitment to create synergies and to build a supportive and evolving community to open up a new dimension in digital cooperation of cultural heritage professionals through the Cultural Heritage Cloud.
