AnaEE granted the ERIC status

On 22 February 2022 the Commission granted the legal status of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) to the Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems  (AnaEE), which brings together and provides access to state-of-the-art experimental and analytical platforms for ecosystem research throughout Europe.

‘AnaEE-ERIC offers capacities to develop multidisciplinary approaches at the frontiers of life sciences, agronomy and environmental sciences, combining experimentation, analysis and modelling services to answer pressing scientific and societal issues’. AnaEE-ERIC will ‘advance our understanding of the environmental impacts of ongoing global change and foster adaptation and mitigation strategies for safeguarding ecosystem services and their economic and societal benefits.’

France is hosting the AnaEE-ERIC statutory seat. The other founding members are Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Italy, Finland and the ‘International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies’ (CIHEAM). Belgium has observer status.

With this decision, the EU provides AnaEE with a stable legal structure that brings also administrative advantages enjoyed by international organisations, thus contributing to the long-term sustainability of AnaEE.

AnaEE-ERIC is the 23rd ERIC established since the very first one in 2011. AnaEE was acknowledged as an ESFRI Landmark in 2021.

AnaEE-ERIC and other open European research infrastructures contribute to the new European Research Area (ERA) objectives with larger R&D investments, more evenly distributed capacities and access to excellence across Europe,  better circulation of knowledge and technology and finally increased EU competitiveness. Research infrastructures such as AnaEE-ERIC also enable science-based solutions, delivering in particular on the European Green Deal.

The Commission decision and the ERIC statutes are published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
