12th EU-ASEAN Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation Strengthens Collaboration Prospects

The 12^th EU-ASEAN Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation (AEUDSTI 12) took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on 19 June 2025, alongside the ASEAN Senior Officials and Ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation meetings. 

The dialogue reviewed the achievements of EU-ASEAN cooperation in several areas, such as the development of an ASEAN regional research infrastructure strategy with expert input from the EU, talent mobility and the ASEAN technology management hub. 

AEUDSTI 12 also discussed ways to further enhance EU-ASEAN R&I cooperation in areas such as science diplomacy with the World Science Forum hosted in Jakarta in 2026, start-ups, ASEAN membership of the International Bioeconomy Forum various MSCA schemes and participation in Health Research multilateral fora. Recognising the relatively low participation of ASEAN countries in Horizon Europe, DG RTD encouraged their counterparts in ASEAN to increase their engagement, for example by nominating additional National Contact Points.

Side events took place focusing on the promotion of Horizon Europe. The night before, at the event organised together with EU funded projects e-READI and EURAXESS ASEAN, researchers from the region that have already participated in the Framework Programme shared their experience. 

In the morning of 19 June and co-organised with Indonesia’s National R&I Agency and EURAXESS ASEAN over 300 rectors and vice-rectors attended the event.

At the start of the week, the EU-Singapore Research community event, organised with the support of EURAXESS ASEAN, was another opportunity to raise the profile of collaborative research opportunities under Horizon Europe.
