What is RISE?
The Research, innovation and science expert group (RISE) was a high-level group of policy experts who advised the former Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas. The group was set up in 2014 and concluded its mandate in 2019.
Their work focused on direct policy advice taking a long-term, structural reflection on the role of research and innovation policy in the future EU agenda.
The RISE group was chaired by Dr. Daria Gołębiowska-Tataj.
Research and innovation in Europe – what’s next?
101 Ideas on the future of research and innovation in Europe is a collection of proposals to stimulate debate on the future of research and innovation policy in Europe. The ideas arise from a year long series of meetings, the Tour d’Europe, where experts from the RISE and ESIR met with their counterparts from across Europe.
The book includes a panoply of thoughts and suggestions, reflecting a myriad national perspectives and the individual histories of research and innovation in each country. It is inspired by President Juncker’s wish to have a wide and open debate on the Future of Europe.
