The 2023 European Innovation Week was organized in Taipei from 29 May to 2 June 2023, under the initiative of the European Commission in collaboration with Taiwan agencies. As part of the events carried out to bring together Taiwanese and European companies, clusters, and Research and Innovation stakeholders, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission (DG RTD) and the National Science and Technology Council  (NSTC) co-organised several activities aimed at fostering the participation of Taiwan’s entities and researchers under Horizon Europe and connecting the EU and Taiwan R&I communities.

A Horizon Europe Seminar took place on 30 May 2023 to present the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-24, its structure, policy priorities and opportunities for international cooperation in specific parts of the programme, starting from Pillar I on Excellent Science (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, European Research Council, and Research Infrastructures), the clusters in Pillar II and within the European Partnerships. Participants expressed strong interest in joining Horizon Europe, which is mostly open to the world, in line with the Global Approach to Research and Innovation Communication. Taiwan’s researchers and entities are eligible to apply to most of the topics included in the Work Programme 2023-24 as Associated Partners. Relevant information on the co-funding mechanism set up by the NSTC were also shared, as a valuable instrument to support the participation of Taiwanese entities and researchers under Horizon Europe.

The first networking activity co-organised by DG RTD and the NSTC kicked-off on 31 May: the R&I World Café - Networking Roundtables & Workshop brought EU and Taiwan’s researchers at the same table to share experiences and expectations in participating to Horizon Europe and to strengthen ties with the local contact points (NCPs) based in Taipei. The discussion was followed by an interactive workshop on how to prepare and submit a successful Horizon Europe proposal.

During both days, participants to the 2023 European Innovation Week could visit a dedicated Horizon Europe Info Point to ask for further information on the programme’s objectives, funding opportunities, eligibility criteria, and to get practical tips.
