The 4th AERAP Africa-Europe Science Collaboration Forum, took place from 22 to 24 April 2024. The Forum’s primary goal is to expand scientific cooperation and foster inclusive collaboration between Africa and Europe . The agenda includes discussions on significant policy frameworks and strategic plans, such as the AU-EU Innovation Agenda, the AUC Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020-2030), the EU Comprehensive Strategy with Africa, and key initiatives such as Horizon Europe, FP10, and the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI). These dialogues aim to enhance sustainable development, healthcare, biodiversity, and digital advancements, underscoring the cohesive and unified approach that is fundamental to Team Europe.
The Forum is set to be a pivotal platform, highlighting the vital role of science and digital innovation in shaping EU policies towards Africa. It aims to position African scientific leadership at the forefront, reflecting the collaborative ethos championed by Team Europe. The Forum will foster deeper engagement with policymakers and amplify the impact of scientific initiatives, aiming to strengthen the ties between African stakeholders and their European counterparts through strategic science and innovation partnerships.
A special "Science, Technology, and Innovation Roundtable on Policy Perspectives" session is scheduled for 14:00 to 15:00 SAST/CEST on Wednesday, 24 April 2024. The panel will feature Mr Daan du Toit, acting Director General of the Department of Science and Innovation, Government of South Africa, and Ms Maria Cristina Russo, Director for Global Approach & International Cooperation in DG Research and Innovation, European Commission, Brussels.
