30th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Research and Innovation Platform Senior Officials Meeting and 1st Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Marketplace

The focus of this meeting was to discuss together the state of play of the implementation of the UfM Roadmaps on Health, Renewable Energy and Climate change.

A rich discussion from the platform members contributed to provide the Platform Strategic Direction – Towards Meeting commitments of the 2022 Union for the Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Research and Innovation.

Back-to-back with the senior official meeting the European Commission, in collaboration with the UfM, launched the 1st Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Marketplace. This was a result of a long-term work on mapping relevant projects funded by H2020, PRIMA and ENI CBC projects as part of our implementation plan to concretely implement the roadmaps on Renewable Energies, Climate Change, and Health.

During the event, experts emphasised the critical need to close the existing gap between research and commercialisation, which often stifles sustainability and hinders future development.

Among the highlighted initiatives were several standout projects demonstrating exceptional business and market maturity.

The innovation marketplace serves as a platform to showcase groundbreaking projects, fostering collaborative opportunities among stakeholders in the region while addressing the barriers to technology transfer and commercialisation.

As the drive for innovation continues to gain momentum, the European Commission and UfM are committed to advancing these initiatives, ensuring they reach their full market potential and contribute to a more sustainable future.
