The 10th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Science and Technology Committee took place on 30 September 2020 via video conference. Hosted virtually by Mexico, it was co-chaired by Ms Maria Elena Álvarez-Buylla Roces, Director General of the National Council of Science and Technology and Ms Maria Cristina Russo, R&I Director for International Cooperation.
In their introductory remarks, both sides highlighted 15 years of successful cooperation between the EU and Mexico in research and innovation. The meeting covered discussions on the state of play of framework conditions, the importance of co-funding mechanism, gender issues, human capital development and open access. Both sides agreed on positioning marine research, health, renewable energy, sustainable cities and human capital development at the centre of an enhanced R&I strategic cooperation between EU and Mexico.
The mutual willingness to continue EU-Mexico cooperation in research and innovation was confirmed by the celebration of the renewal of the “Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation between the European Community and the United Mexican States".
