Aims and activities of EuroGEO

This page explains the overall vision of EuroGEO and the strategy to implement it

The EuroGEO vision

Earth observation is performed on a local, national, European and global level.

Enhanced coordination of activities in Europe fosters a coherent European Earth observation landscape.

To this end, EuroGEO helps combining existing earth observation assets and initiatives.

EuroGEO aims to

EuroGEO activities

To make this vision a reality, EuroGEO focuses on making use of existing European capacities and streamline existing programmes and funding schemes.

A large part of this work benefits from the Copernicus programme, including its data and products, to create strong links between different Earth observation resources in Europe.

EuroGEO

  • provides an inventory of innovation activities in Europe
  • upscales selected EuroGEO pilot applications
  • supports national environmental and Earth observation efforts in Europe
  • supports international efforts to coordinate environmental and Earth observation activities
  • links EuroGEO applications and other global Earth observation activities
  • uses the data and support available from the Group on Earth Observations in Europe

EuroGEO'S strategy is based around the 3Cs – coordination, combination and cooperation

  • coordination of user driven activities to ensure a coherent European contribution to GEOSS
  • combination or integration of activities to reach critical-mass of use
  • cooperation beyond individual programmes and user communities in Europe
