Description
Key takeaways from the first stakeholder conference in Brussels on knowledge valorisation
Engagement with all R&I stakeholders is key for knowledge valorisation. On this basis, DG Research and Innovation co-designed with interested stakeholders the programme for the ‘Making research results work for society’ conference which was part of the Awareness raising campaign on knowledge valorisation.
The conference gathered a variety of stakeholders in Brussels on 26 October 2023, and was also broadcasted online to reach the entire spectrum of R&I ecosystems in Europe and beyond.
Building on the contributions received in a public call, the programme included panel discussions on paving the way to knowledge valorisation, intellectual assets management and standardisation for knowledge uptake, to exploring tips on collaboration and networking and getting inspiration from circular economy solutions through open innovation.
The conference was an opportunity for European stakeholders from the research and innovation ecosystem to meet, expand their networks, and learn and exchange about the latest policies, initiatives and best practices on knowledge valorisation.
The event also featured the fifth edition of the CEN-CENELEC Awards for Standards & Innovation Ceremony which recognises the important contribution of research and innovation to standardisation.
The event gathered around 700 participants who joined in person and online.
The key takeaways refer to:
- The important role of funding agencies and management of R&I institutions to support projects which integrate knowledge valorisation and demonstrate the societal value to be created
- The need to increasing training offers for researchers to develop complementary skills and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset
- The importance of recognising contributions to standardisation activities in research assessment
- Investing in the professionalisation of knowledge/ technology transfer staff and increasing networking opportunities
- Facilitating opportunities for projects and researchers to showcase or test their results to society representatives and industry and to overcome the ‘death valley of technology’
