Youth Policy Dialogue on the Future of Cities
Commissioner for Start-Ups, Research, and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva will hold the first EU Youth Policy Dialogue on the future of cities on 10 March 2025 in Warsaw, Poland.
The main objective of this dialogue is to actively engage young people in shaping the cities of tomorrow. It will provide a platform for youth to discuss their role in transforming urban spaces into sustainable, innovative, and inclusive environments.
Aligned with the EU’s Political Guidelines for 2024-2029, the dialogue invites youth to contribute their ideas and solutions, ensuring their perspectives are central to EU policymaking. This event is part of the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, which aims to support 112 cities on their journey toward achieving climate neutrality by 2030. It will also link to the New European Bauhaus initiative, which promotes green transitions in urban environments that are enjoyable and accessible for all.
Young participants will engage in discussions around three main themes:
- environment and sustainability
- technology and innovation
- inclusion and accessibility
They will explore how cities can become greener and more climate-resilient, the role of digital technologies and smart infrastructure, and how to create inclusive spaces for diverse populations.
After the Dialogue
Following the event, a report summarizing the outcomes of the Youth Policy Dialogue will be made available online on the European Youth Portal and other relevant platforms. The insights gathered from young participants will contribute to the Commission’s policymaking process, ensuring that their voices are heard and integrated into future EU urban policies.
