The EU’s external policies, strategies, instruments and missions have 4 key aims

The role of Social Sciences and Humanities(SSH) research

SSH research projects contribute to the evidence base and sound understanding of the external environment that the EU operates in.

They assess the root causes of instability and the connections between security and democracy as well as gender equality, social values and economic conditions in the wider European neighbourhood.

Research also addresses the internal and external dimension of EU human rights policy in general and on the challenges to ensure consistency between the different areas of its external action and internal policies. Social sciences and humanities research furthermore plays an important role in addressing the policy aspects of international cooperation and development policy.
