We are excited to announce that the second phase of the EU Knowledge Valorisation awareness-raising campaign is about to begin! During the first phase of the campaign, many stakeholders have been mobilised, national reforms have been initiated, new dedicated funding for knowledge valorisation has boosted co-creation between research and innovation actors and expanded innovation ecosystems.
Inspired by the first series of events, we are now taking the campaign further to build greater awareness – hopefully with you!
If you are a researcher, student, innovator, entrepreneur, Horizon beneficiary, work for a research institution, higher education institution, standard development organisation, or work as an intellectual assets management professional, an intermediary, active in business or civil society, a part of local and regional administrations dealing with policy-making – than this is your opportunity to participate and be at the forefront of change. You can join us at dedicated events to gain insights, share expertise, and connect.
The sphere of organisers of these events broadens. In the first phase, it was solely from high-level ministerial fora, while now it expands to other entities with nationwide appeal. National innovation agencies, intellectual property organisation or other established thematic bodies, university associations or business associations can take the lead to organise a national knowledge valorisation event.
The concept has also evolved to promote more concrete actions for the practical implementation of the knowledge valorisation principles. Your feedback from the ground is essential in the way ideas turn from bright minds to lab, to market and to a more innovative society.
We are glad to already announce that the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU is planning to host an event in Warsaw in May 2025.
Framework of the campaign
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research & Innovation has been running an awareness raising campaign on knowledge valorisation to disseminate the latest policy developments and to demonstrate how research and innovation results can be better transformed into societal and economic benefits. The campaign started in spring 2023 and unfolded throughout 2024. We will continue these roadshows and dialogues in 2025.
The awareness raising campaign is an inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders through three main types of events:
- Tour of capitals: national events co-designed with Member States tailored on the specificities of the local R&I ecosystem.
- Annual stakeholder events: the first one was organised on 26 October 2023; the second one took place on 10 December 2024. Both gathered a broad spectrum of speakers and over 700 participants in Brussels and online who discussed main challenges, opportunities and best practices for peer learning, while also encouraging collaboration.
Find out more about the last event - Training sessions, covering topics related to knowledge valorisation.
Guidance materials for research and innovation actors can be found in the Guidance section.
