Public-public partnerships with EU countries

Public-public partnerships with EU countries in bioeconomy research

Objective of public-public partnerships

Public-public partnerships are agreements that enable EU countries to draw up joint research programmes that the EU may participate in. They pool national research efforts to make better use of Europe's resources and tackle common European challenges more effectively.

Joint programming initiatives in bioeconomy research

Joint programming is a process whereby EU countries agree on common visions and strategic research and innovation agendas to address major societal challenges.

Joint Programming Initiatives active in bioeconomy research and innovation are

JPI on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI)

FACCE-JPI brings together 24 countries committed to building an integrated European Research Area addressing the interconnected challenges of sustainable agriculture, food security and impacts of climate change.

Its Strategic Research Agenda helps align existing programmes and joint research efforts to achieve food security and combat climate change.

JPI Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life (JPI HDHL)

In the JPI HDHL, 26 countries in and outside of Europe are working to align national research and innovation strategies and fund new research to better understand the relationship between diet, physical activity and health.

JPI Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI Oceans)

EJP soils

The EJP soils involves 26 leading European research institutes and universities in 24 countries.
It will build a sustainable research community on agricultural soils and develop a roadmap on climate-smart sustainable agricultural soil management.

EJP one health

One Health EJP aims to create a sustainable European one health framework by integrating and aligning medical, veterinary and food institutes through joint programming of research agendas.
It covers a network of 41 European laboratories and research centres in 19 EU countries.
Since human health is closely linked to the health of animals and the environment, it aims to boost knowledge about foodborne zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance and emerging threats.

ERA-net cofund

ERA-net cofund is a funding instrument under Horizon 2020 to support public-public partnerships. It aims to increase substantially the share of funding that EU countries dedicate jointly to challenge-driven research and innovation agendas. In practice, this involves 'topping-up' funding of single joint-calls for transnational research and innovation in selected areas with high European added-value.
