Share your best practice at the EU Knowledge Valorisation Week 2023

Let us know what successful ways you use to translate scientific advances and inventions into concrete solutions for society and industry!

Apply to share your knowledge valorisation strategy, tool, network or action at the EU Knowledge Valorisation Week 2023 (25-28 April).

Join the exchange among valorisation actors from all over Europe and become part of the flagship event that contributes to the European Research Area and EU Innovation Agenda. The EU Knowledge Valorisation Week aims to improve policies, investments, capacities and skills in knowledge valorisation by showcasing inspiring practices, exchanging experiences and stimulating dialogue across borders.

Whether you are a university, company, business association, research organisation, arts institution or any other valorisation actor, you are invited to help shape the Week’s programme by sharing your example.

All you need to do is to submit a short description of your best practice to the repository on this Platform and express your interest in being part of the event.

Deadline for submissions is 13 January 2023.

For the 2023 edition, we particularly invite you to propose practices that tackle one or several of the following topics.

  1. Sustainability, including green transition
Best practices that have been successful in transforming knowledge into products and solutions that support sustainability goals, including the green transition. The practices should be sustainable themselves in terms of long-term engagement and impact. Practices with multi-actor involvement, including citizens and/or regional authorities, are very welcome.
Note that we are not looking for research results and science-based inventions. Instead, we are looking for strategies and tools that have boosted their uptake by the market and their deployment by industry, public authorities and/or citizens. This may include practices that were not specifically designed in view of ‘sustainability’, but have turned out to be successful in this area. Particularly interesting would be practices that could be linked to the five Horizon Europe missions on cancer, adapting to climate change, restoring our ocean and waters, climate-neural and smart cities as well as healthy soils.
  2. Intellectual asset management
Best practices that foster the management and use of intellectual assets resulting from research and science in a broad sense. This includes assets that can be legally protected (patents, copyrights, trademarks etc.) as well as intangible ones. For example, a strategy at the organisation level which covers creation, management, and utilisation of all types of intellectual assets as well as practices related to specific aspects (e.g. incentives for researchers, inventors, KT professionals and research managers; IP valuation; co-ownership situations; spin-off and start-up creation; awareness raising, especially among researchers and students; intellectual assets in international research and innovation co-operations; skills, training and facilitators etc.)
  3. Better connection to public research and knowledge uptake in industry
Best practices that support knowledge circulation, mobility and collaboration between academia and industry, in particular SMEs, creating a win-win-situation for all parties involved (incentives). Practices may consist of comprehensive strategies, partnerships and measures for knowledge valorisation. They can also focus on specific aspects like, early identification of valorisation potential, inter-sectoral mobility, networking formats, intermediaries and technology scouting, training and skills development. Practices fostering standardisation activities as conduit for knowledge dissemination are particularly welcome.

The selection of best practices for the Week will take into account a number of aspects.

The EU Knowledge Valorisation Week 2023 will be an online event. The owners of selected best practices may be invited to make the presentation in Brussels at the European Commission, Directorate-General Research & Innovation, or to connect online.

All eligible practices will be published in the registry of the EU Knowledge Valorisation Platform.
