The Horizon Europe Launch Day for the Republic of Moldova was held virtually on 3 December 2021. The event was organised by the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova in close collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.

The main objective of the event was to bring forward the existing opportunities under the Horizon Europe activities and calls open to Moldovan participants. The Republic of Moldova enjoys as of 3 November the status of “Associated Country’’ due to the provisional application of the Association Agreement signed on 27 October. This status gives Moldovan research entities the possibility to participate in Horizon Europe on equal footing with entities from EU member states.

The meeting was welcomed by the Minister for Education and Research, Mr Anatolie Topala and Ms. Signe Ratso, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.

Ms. Signe Ratso praised the excellent cooperation in research & innovation between the EU and the Republic of Moldova dating back since the first association of the Republic of Moldova to the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP7) in 2012, and highlighted the dedication of the Moldovan authorities to make association to Horizon Europe possible.

Ms. Ratso also underlined that the Republic of Moldova and the European Union share many areas of mutual interest in research and innovation and the commitment to support innovative solutions to drive sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.

The launch event, which was moderated by Ms Anne Haglund-Morrissey, Deputy Head of the Horizon Association Unit, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission, and Ms Olga Tagadiuc, General Director, Moldovan National Agency for Research and Development, provided an opportunity to lively interact and discuss the novelties of Horizon Europe, the various parts of the programme, and opportunities for Moldovan researchers and innovators to participate.  It included presentations from representatives of the European Commission and its Executive Agencies, and from the Moldovan research and innovation landscape, and gathered more than 180 participants.
