As well as evidence of the overall impacts, the focuses in on some of the most exciting areas of technology and innovation that have been supported, such as human centric AI, quantum computing & medical imaging. In these, and many other areas, the EIC is unique in supporting both breakthrough research (the EIC Pathfinder, building on the Future and Emerging Technologies programme) and the scale up of innovative startups and SMEs (the EIC Accelerator, building on the former SME instrument).
One of the new features of the EIC as it moves from the pilot to the full operational phase under Horizon Europe, is the appointment of high-level Programme Managers. Their role is to contribute with expert technology and market knowledge to the EIC project portfolio and help transform early technology visions into reality, advancing innovative projects and companies along the EIC pipeline from early stage research to commercially successful innovations.
Two new EIC programme managers were announced today and will join the EIC from 1 October 2020. Dr Antonio Pantaleo will focus on bioenergy projects and Dr Francesco Matteucci will manage the portfolio of materials for green energy. They will have a role in driving the EIC’s strategy for green transformation in the upcoming Research and Innovation Framework Programme, Horizon Europe (2021 – 2027), and increasing the impact of currently funded promects. They join the two Programme Managers already in place, Iordanis Arzimanoglou and Enric Claverol-Tinturé.
