Knowledge valorisation session at the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022

As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022, we are organising a panel discussion with three experts on the potential of knowledge valorisation at the local and regional levels. The session, titled ‘Knowledge valorisation – A new opportunity for territorial cohesion’ will take place virtually on 12 October 2022 (9:30 – 10:30).

Although the innovation performance of most EU regions has increased over time, regional disparities in research and innovation (R&I) performance remain across the EU and this innovation divide has been increasing. Bridging this gap remains a challenge to be addressed in order to strengthen the overall EU innovation performance. To respond to this challenge, the new European Innovation Agenda sets out 25 dedicated actions to improve funding, enable innovation through experimentation, support the creation of regional innovation valleys, train and retain talent, and improve policy-making tools.

The session will demonstrate the potential of specific knowledge valorisation tools to be applied at the regional and local level that could boost R&I results uptake. This will include practical examples from the repository of best practices of the Knowledge Valorisation Platform with local/regional application. The aim is also to explain the importance of connecting local strategies with EU-level initiatives therefore ensuring that local actors understand the importance of knowledge valorisation and the benefits it can bring to their communities. Three excellent speakers will share their expertise and intervene in the discussion:

  • Katiuska Cruz, Entrepreneurship & Tech Transfer at the Portuguese National Innovation Agency;
  • Francesco Molinari, Innovation Policy Expert;
  • Hanna-Greta Puurtinen, Development Manager for External Funding at Tampere University.

The session will be moderated by Kirsi Haavisto, Head of Unit at the Valorisation Policies and IPR Unit of DG Research and Innovation at the European Commission.
