Informal annual meeting of BSEC Organisation with the COEST Working Party of the EU Council of Ministers

On 28 January, DG Research and Innovation actively participated in the informal annual meeting of the BSEC Organization (Black Sea Economic Cooperation) with the COEST Working Party of the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers.

The purpose of the meetings was to exchange views and ideas for further strengthening the cooperation between the BSEC Organization and the EU in areas of mutual interest such as blue growth, sustainable development, maritime affaires, people-to-people contacts etc.

DG R&I presented a number of key achievements, ongoing projects and future perspectives for research and innovation in the Black Sea Region. The conclusion of the Association negotiations and signature of the Association Agreements for Horizon Europe with a number of BSEC members and observers was highlighted as an opportunity for these countries to participate in all the actions and calls of the programme with the same rights as the EU Member States.

Important developments on the implementation of the Black Sea SRIA (Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda), such as the joint exercise of priority setting for the SRIA implementation plan, the Black Sea Operational Network of Funders; the Black Sea CONNECT coordination and support action; as well as the different opportunities provided by the Horizon Europe work programme, and especially the synergies with the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030 and the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership were particularly well received.

BSEC is seen as a reliable and trustworthy partner in the wider Black Sea area by all European counterparts and they are ready to continue cooperating with BSEC and developing projects of interest to the citizens of the BSEC Member States.
