Fresh off the press: Horizon Europe - New European Bauhaus Nexus report

The ‘Horizon Europe-New European Bauhaus Nexus Report’ has been published today opening a window on the potential for the EU research and innovation framework programme to contribute to the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

The report shares the outcomes of a high-level workshop, organised on 30 November 2021, bringing together experts in architecture, built environment, design, climate and energy to discuss a forward-looking R&I agenda for the NEB.

This publication includes several recommendations that aim to support the development of the NEB initiative. These recommendations are based on the current and future organisational structures and timeframes of the Horizon Europe framework programme. They consider opportunities for the funding period 2021-2022, mid-term goals for the period 2023-2024, and long-term actions beyond 2024 that reflect the transdisciplinary and trans-sectoral vision of the NEB. The report also provides a roadmap with strategic priorities and associated benchmarks that describes a possible path forward for European society and its response to the climate crisis, together with the EU’s global partners.

Background

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a creative and interdisciplinary initiative that connects the European Green Deal to peoples’ living spaces and experiences. It aims to create a new lifestyle that matches sustainability with good design to improve quality of life, accelerating the green and digital transitions. The NEB is based on three core values: (1) Sustainability; (2) Aesthetics; and (3) Inclusion.

The NEB is an initiative that aims to bridge the worlds of art and culture with science and technology, and so research and innovation (R&I) are major components of the NEB’s design, delivery and dissemination. Horizon Europe plays a key role as a major driver of new ideas, prototypes and products.
