EU project to develop small-scale hydropower installations in Central Asia

On 30 June 2021 the Horizon 2020 project HYDRO4U (“Hydropower For You”) was launched with a successful high-level kick-off event.

Hydro4U will have a duration of 5 years and is supported with close to €10 million from Horizon 2020, the EU’s  Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020).

It brings together hydropower industry, politics, science and societal stakeholders from both Central Asia and the EU. The project focusses on the development of small-scale hydropower installations to address multiple challenges for the region: secure sustainable water, energy and food supply as well as building resilience to climate change. These hydropower solutions will be socio-economically and environmentally sustainable and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. HYDRO4U supports international cooperation through its participating countries with the help of local partners and the engagement of local civil society.
