The EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors gathered in Brussels for their second Summer Camp, on 16-17 July 2026, marking a key milestone in their two-year mission to promote a sustainable, circular and competitive bioeconomy across Europe.
Following the launch of their mandate in 2025, the Summer Camp offered the Ambassadors the opportunity to reflect on their first year, share achievements and strengthen their role as young communicators, bridge-builders and advocates for the bioeconomy. It also underlined the essential role of youth engagement in making the bioeconomy more widely communicated and more closely connected to citizens’ daily lives.
At the heart of the camp was a simple but powerful idea: young people should not only be consulted, but actively involved in shaping the policies and solutions that affect their future. The Ambassadors were reminded that they are in the driving seat of a growing movement, with the ability to bring fresh perspectives, connect communities and open dialogue between different actors.
One year of achievements across Europe
The programme highlighted the unique contribution the Ambassadors can make by translating complex scientific and policy topics into accessible and engaging stories. In a context where scientific knowledge is abundant, effective communication and storytelling are essential tools to engage citizens and inspire action on issues such as biotechnology, circularity, sustainable resource management and the transition to a competitive and resilient economy.
A central part of the programme of the Camp focused on the Ambassadors’ individual projects. Through these initiatives, they are informing and inspiring their peers, engaging local communities and working with decision-makers to show how the bioeconomy is relevant in everyday life.
During the Summer Camp, the Ambassadors showcased the progress made during the first year of their mandate.
Together, they have:
- Delivered presentations and keynote speeches at international conferences, policy dialogues and major bioeconomy events across Europe.
- Launched Bioeconomy Clubs and organised workshops, hackathons and outreach activities to engage students and local communities.
