Commissioner Gabriel launches the Black Sea Young Ambassadors Programme and projects results pack

The "Research and innovation in the Black Sea: Empowering the next generation for a healthy, resilient and productive Black Sea" virtual event was held on 29 October. For the special occasion of the International Black Sea Day, 31 October, the event provided an update on the Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) national consultations and discussed the COVID-19 impacts on research and innovation underpinning Blue Growth in the Black Sea region.

During this virtual event on 30 October, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel launched the Black Sea Young Ambassadors Programme of early career scientists who will promote exchange and communication, dissemination and exploitation of Black Sea research.  "The network that we are creating has a vocation not only to become a platform for the exchange of knowledge and good practices, but also to allow leadership in science and innovation for young researchers," stated Commissioner Gabriel.

Additionally, the Commissioner introduced the Black Sea CORDIS Results Pack on the International Black Sea Day (31 October). The Results Pack features a variety of EU funded Horizon 2020 projects that have finalised their contributions to Black Sea research and innovation in the last 3 years.

These actions are in line with the Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) launched during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The SRIA constitutes the main science pillar of the Common Maritime Agenda (CMA) for the Black Sea and represents a good example of science diplomacy and a contribution to confidence building, resilience and positive regional dialogue in a region with geopolitical difficulties.
