Citizen Engagement Survey on the EU Missions Awareness unveils key Insights

Today the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation is publishing the results of a groundbreaking survey conducted in six European countries to assess the levels of awareness and engagement of European citizens on the EU Missions.

The survey was commissioned as part of Policy Experimentation in Research and Innovation, a project delivered by the Innovation Growth Lab (Nesta and Barcelona School of Economics) and the Center for Collective Intelligence Design (Nesta) for the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. It delves into the dynamics of citizen awareness and willingness to participate in the EU missions across six countries: Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Romania. As the first survey of its kind, it provides unique insights into the barriers and opportunities for citizen engagement in EU missions.

Key lessons from the study highlight the need to increase opportunities, funding, and requirements for citizen engagement. It advocates addressing participation barriers, focusing on local benefits, targeting young people, and investing in diverse engagement methods. These findings are invaluable for Directorate-Generals and the teams working on citizen engagement in public and social challenges, particularly those involved in the EU missions.
