Cities mission at carbon neutrality and urban sustainability conference

The 4th edition of the carbon neutrality and urban sustainability conference took place on 3-6 November as part of the sustainable development week. It was organised by Pau the capital of the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in France in partnership with CAUE 64 its architecture and urbanism environment council.

Anna-Lisa Boni, member of the mission board on climate-neutral and smart cities participated in the opening session where she presented the mission proposal on 100 Climate-Neutral Cities by 2030 - by and for the citizens. The proposed targets for the mission are to support, promote and showcase 100 European cities in their systemic transformation to climate neutrality by 2030 and turn these cities into innovation hubs for all cities, benefitting quality of life and sustainability in Europe.

The European Commission and city of Pau also organised an online citizen workshop to discuss the next steps for the climate action plan of the city. They asked for input from citizens on the following topics:

-What are your concrete solutions for achieving carbon neutrality by 2040?

-For me, acting for carbon neutrality daily basis means…

-What role do you wish to play in your neighbourhood in the transition to a more sustainable city?

- How can the local authority help you to achieve the carbon neutrality?

-We are in 2040, Pau has become a carbon neutral city, how do you imagine it?

The well-attended conference was closed by Laurence Farreng, member of the European Parliament and Patrick Child, deputy director general at DG Research & Innovation, European Commission.
