On 25 April 2023 the European Commission adopted the Commission Implementing Decision to set up the Aerosol, Clouds, and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (ACTRIS) as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). ACTRIS ERIC is the 26thERIC in the European landscape.
ACTRIS ERIC coordinates activities for documenting concentrations, understanding processes and quantifying impacts of short-lived atmospheric constituents on Earth’s climate, air quality, human health and ecosystems. It offers a unique portfolio of services used by a large community of scientists to conduct top-level research related to aerosol, clouds and reactive trace gases. It produces high-quality integrated datasets in the area of atmospheric sciences and provides services, including access to instrumented platforms, tailored for scientific and technological usage.
ACTRIS ERIC will be a distributed research infrastructure with statutory seat in Helsinki, Finland, and Head Office units located in Finland and Italy. 15 are the founding Members (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and Sweden) and 1 the founding Observer (Switzerland). They all host ACTRIS National Facilities.
ACTRIS ERIC strongly contributes to the new European Research Area (ERA) objectives.
ACTRIS entered the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures Roadmap in 2016 and was awarded as a ESFRI Landmark in the 2021 Roadmap.
