The 6th Joint Committee on scientific and technological cooperation between Japan and the EU

H.E. Mr. NAKANE Takeshi, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Jean-Eric PAQUET, Director-General of the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission will co-chair the sixth meeting of the Japan-EU Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, organised under the Japan-EU Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement, which entered into force on 29 March 2011. Both sides welcome its 10th anniversary.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 30 November and will be fully virtual.

It is expected to be attended by the Ambassadors of Japan to the EU and of the EU to Japan, representatives of relevant Ministries and Agencies from Japan as well as officials from the European Commission services and Member States representatives.

The Co-chairs will discuss the key areas of research and innovation cooperation between Japan and the European Union.

Both sides will address present activities, new initiatives and the ways to strengthen multilateral and thematic cooperation in the areas of fundamental research and innovation including climate change and green energy. Other topics to be discussed include: values and principles such as research integrity and open science, Green Alliance and Mission Innovation, arctic research, automated and connected driving, the linkage between Horizon Europe Missions, focusing on the Soil Missions, and Moonshot Research and Development Program, foresight and boosting bilateral cooperation on fusion research.
