3rd EU-Faroes Joint Research and Innovation Committee under Horizon 2020

On 30 November 2020, the 3rd EU-Faroes Joint Research and Innovation Committee Meeting under the agreement associating the Faroe Islands to Horizon 2020 was held online.

The meeting was co-chaired by Poul Geert Hansen, Permanent Secretary of the Faroese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, and Anne Haglund-Morrissey, Deputy Head of Unit, RTD.05 (Horizon Europe Association).

The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the consistent and valuable participation of the Faroe Islands across the whole Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, particularly in the areas of food, environment, health, and research infrastructures. The Faroese success rate in Horizon 2020 is the highest among all Associated Countries.

Other relevant points were addressed:

  • An exchange on the strategic orientations and the elaboration of the first Horizon Europe strategic plan, as well as on the new ERA priorities made public with the Communication adopted on 30 September 2020;
  • An evaluation performed by the Faroese government and new legislation leading towards a renewed Faroese strategy positioning the Faroese Islands’ R&I system at European and global level;
  • The learnings from the Faroese approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, with an efficient and innovative testing strategy as well as promising research projects.
