The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Director-General Signe Ratso, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (European Commission) and by Deputy Director-General Philipp Langer, State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
The following points were addressed:
- Switzerland's level of participation in Horizon 2020: Switzerland is by far the most active associated country, both in terms of participations and EU budget contribution. It has a very high success rate and its participation is now reaching the level of FP7 totals, despite the fact that association to Horizon 2020 was only partial from 2014 to 2016;
- Switzerland's very active participation in the research and training programme of Euratom where their association continues in 2019-2020; and
- Progress made in relation to the ITER project and Fusion for Energy activities, where Switzerland is a key player.
In addition, information was exchanged by the two parties on a number of programmes such as the European partnerships, European Universities or EuroHPC.
The European Commission and Switzerland praised the quality of their cooperation, which represents a strong contribution to Europe’s global R&I leadership.
