The 13th meeting of the EU-Argentina Joint Science and Technology Committee took place on 8 June 2022 via video conference. It was co-chaired by Cristina Russo, Director for Global Approach & International Cooperation for R&I, DG Research and Innovation, and by Karina Pombo, National Directress for the Promotion of Scientific Policy- International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
In their introductory remarks, both sides highlighted the continuously good level of cooperation between the EU and Argentina in research and innovation. They took stock of Argentina’s participation in Horizon 2020 with Argentinian organisations participating more than 240 times of which 162 were in the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions.
In the meeting, the EU side provided information on Europe’s Strategy for international cooperation, the ‘Global Approach to R&I’, and the forthcoming multilateral dialogue on values and principles for R&I cooperation (with open science as an example). The meeting also reviewed recent achievements in EU-Argentina R&I cooperation, paving the way for future collaboration in the strategic fields.
The parties welcomed the decision of Argentina to sign the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Declaration in Washington DC in July, along with the European Union and several other partner countries, and the finalisation of the adoption procedure of an administrative arrangement on ‘Copernicus’.
Both parties also agreed on positioning health (combatting COVID-19 pandemic and research on cancer), nanotech applied to food value and agriculture at the centre of an enhanced R&I cooperation between EU and Argentina.
