On 13 October 2021, the European Commission and European Committee of the Regions are co-organising two sessions under the KEP 2.0 umbrella on Science and Innovation for Recovery.

Regions and cities are key players in addressing major societal and environmental challenges that the EU is facing to achieve a green and digital future for Europe. The Resilience and Recovery Plans give an incredible opportunity to overcome these challenges through investments and reforms: the discussion will highlight the catalysing role of research and innovation to achieve the twin transition underpinning the crucial role of local and regional authorities in the phase of implementation of the Plans.

Anna Panagopoulou, Director, DG Research and Innovation, will introduce the session and give a keynote on research and innovation for a sustainable recovery of Europe.

This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on role of regions and cities in the recovery towards the green transition and the importance of science in this process.
