Description

This literature review aims to explore alternative R&I funding models to investigate the arguments in favour or against these models that question the mainstream approach based on the peer review and merit-based funding. The objective is to help the reader to navigate the positive and negative elements of these theoretical approaches and empirical examples. The selection of papers wants to spark discussions, out-of-the-box thinking, and invites to reflect on the fundamental mechanisms for funding allocation. Reading about critical scientific contributions leads to a better understanding of the preferred policy options. The objective is to inform the debate and help readers to develop their views in agreement or disagreement with the arguments proposed by the selected publications.
