With the rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of scientific advice to policy makers has gained greater visibility and the role of science became a matter of discussion in the public at large. The panelists will exchange views on the challenges and principles of giving scientific advice to policy makers in times of uncertainty and complexity, when a situation is evolving rapidly, when risks are high and knowledge is limited.
The panelist are:
- Prof. Pearl Dykstra and Sir Paul Nurse - members of The European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors
- Barbara Prainsack from the Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies
- Dr. Carrie Wolinetz, Associate Director for Science Policy, NIH and
- Prof. Peter Piot, Special Advisor to the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, on COVID-19.
