“What was done right and what has gone wrong in pandemic responses to date?”
COVID-19 has been an unprecedented test to the role and functionality of science advice and science diplomacy mechanisms around the world. The role of scientists, science advisors and diplomats has never before been placed under such intense scrutiny. The lessons learned of the pandemic are crucial for more resilience, flexibility and better informed systems for a future response to crisis such as pandemic outbreak.
INGSA invited global experts working at the science, society and policy interfaces to join a high-level panel that will frame the discussion for the Global Week of Dialogue. Beyond this, in order to accommodate the global network, INGSA is running live events across 4 different regions and time zones - Africa, The Americas, Asia/Oceania, and Europe.
The High-Level panel will be available to view in advance and there will be screenings before each one of the LIVE Regional panels, which will be contextualising and deepening the discussion for their regions.
Prof Pearl Dykstra - the Deputy Chair of the EC Group of Chief Scientific Advisors is member of the High-Level-Panel. Together with the consortium of Europe’s academies, SAPEA the Group of chief Scientific Advisors forms the Scientific Advice Mechanism for the European Commission called SAM.
The panel will address some of the main challenges the global system of science and governance have faced, to begin the discussions that will be elaborated on in each of the Regional Discussion Panels taking place over the course of the week.
